Ref.#77 1447 ~ Mt Jefferson at Dusk
The July adventure started out to reach a spectacular view of 10,497' elevation Mt Jefferson (Oregon). To get there one travels the "Skyline Road" from Estacada in the North or Detroit Lake from the South. The road was rough but passable in a vehicle with decent clearance. The trail starts near Breitenbush Lake and climbs to 7100' (in about 3.7 miles). The trail winds up the North side of Park Ridge. Mt Jefferson is not visible until one crests the ridge. From the ridge summit is the spectacular view one sees here looking over an alpine valley named Jefferson Park.
Looking south from the ridge, a formation of lenticular clouds formed as a moist airstream rose to pass over the Cascade Range. Dusk was approaching and a decision was made to "camp" up on the ridge to photograph what might be an incredible sunset about to happen. . . . . . . WOW!
Note: The words "camp gear" proved quite lacking ...... plugging holes in a previous visitor’s rock wall; huddling with parkas under a very thin foil space-blanket and dining on a can of "Mug-A-Lunch".
Mamiya RB67 Camera; Kodak Vericolor film
