Ref.#85 3220 ~ Unnamed Canyon (Antelope Canyon, Ariz.)
When I was a juror for photography at our local county fair I had a long conversation with a fellow juror who told me of a relatively unknown but magnificent slot canyon in northern Arizona.
I followed his directions explicitly as there were no signs at the time to find it. I stopped in the visitor center in Page but no one had ever heard of it. Parking at the noted culvert north of town, I embarked on a half mile trek up a dry wash. The wash appeared to end at a sandstone wall, as I got closer, a crevasse appeared. Upon entering, these dynamic abstract swirls and curves surrounded me, glowing with the reflected sunlight.
With respect to my friend I titled it “Unnamed Canyon”. The secret did not last long, as other photographers heard about it. Their images soon graced the covers of several photo magazines.
