Moore Round Barn (XL)
Ref.#92 6126xl ~ Moore Round Barn, 1899
We learned a great deal about the design of round barns from the owner this day. This barn near East Barnet, Vermont, was designed with three levels. Hay wagons could drive up to the top level and drop hay to the cattle (up to 60 head) lived in stalls on the middle level. Extra hay could be put in the central silo to be accessed later. Manure could be scooped into trapped doors to the bottom level and hauled away. An innovative design which did have one problem. If the hay in the silo began to ferment, the unbearable odor would permeate the whole barn.
