Baxter Marsh
Ref.#00 1066 ~ Baxter Marsh
Baxter State Park is a large wilderness area permanently preserved as a state park but as large as many national parks. It retains its own governance and is not part of the Maine State Park system. It is a land full of beautiful lakes and streams. Near the center is Mt Katahdin, the highest point of the Appalachian Trail in Maine at 5267 '. While we have hiked many trails in search of beautiful scenery we always hope to run across a moose in the middle of one of these ponds. No such luck this time ..... but the autumn colors were amazing. In later years we chanced upon several moose at Sandy Stream Pond within the park.
