I have spent a part of every summer since boyhood in the Oregon Cascades. If I could summarize the ambiance of summer in the High Cascades this photograph would be it!
Sparks Lake is formed from rain and snowmelt in a basin formed by lava fields surrounded by the Three Sisters, Mt Bachelor, and Brokentop. There is no obvious outflow as the lake drains subterranean through the lava to feed adjacent streams and rivers.
