The Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in North America. The structure built by the Ancient Pueblo Peoples is located in Mesa Verde National Park. The population is thought to have had a population of over 100 reaching its peak at about 1200 AD. When we visited, a trail leading down to the dwellings was closed due to ice on the steps. In summer months park rangers lead tours through parts of the dwelling. The many rooms and round kivas originally had roofs over them supported by pine logs. These were not replaced as part of the restoration
