Long before billboards, companies would approach farmers and ranchers with the proposal of painting their barns for free if they could advertise their product on the sides of barns. Many of these barns still survive with signs painted using the most durable paint of their time. This barn from Douglas County, Oregon survived until a severe winter storm took it down in the late 1970's.
