Ref.#01 3293 ~ Hannah Covered Bridge
The Hannah Bridge is the youngest of the five covered spans on Thomas Creek in Linn County. The 105-foot housed “Howe Truss” is exposed through the large side openings on the bridge. The roofed river crossing was built in 1936. While many see the covered bridges as romantic, the true function of the roof was to preserve the massive timbers of the truss from weathering. Of about 450 covered bridges originally built in Oregon roughly 50 still remain ~ most of them in the mid- Willamette Valley. Many were rebuilt in the early years after winter floods took them out.
