At the Wizard Falls Hatchery the Metolius River flows over an old bed of lava that is very slowly eroding in the center of the river. The resulting chute fills with crystal clear water which drops over the ledge ~ technically creating a waterfall though only a few feet high. This however is not the actual Wizard Falls. The real Wizard Falls were up in the woods. The water was diverted by the state fish hatchery to provide water its rearing ponds. Th process left the real Wizard Falls dry.
