Three Sisters (XL)
Ref.#81 1062xl ~ Three Sisters
When pioneers saw the Sisters from the east they knew they were almost to the fertile Willamette Valley. Their name for them was “Faith, Hope, and Charity”. (The Sisters were near two buttes: Faith nearest the Brother and Charity nearest the Bachelor ~ now known as Mt. Bachelor, a very popular ski area. All three of the Sisters were just over 10,000 feet elevation.
I had crisscrossed the Cascades many times with only glimpses of the Three Sisters Mountains. I had seen views from the East but It was too far away to show the symmetry of all three. I wanted a clear view of all the Sisters as viewed from the West. After studying topographic maps I narrowed the search to several logging roads southwest of Santiam Pass. Then I set out to drive many of them. From the middle of a clear-cut I found my view. The view is now lost as the young firs in the foreground have grown and matured.
